Mahntie Reeves

Mahntie Reeves is the Academic Dean of Sul Ross Middle School in Northside Independent School District (NISD).  As the Academic Dean of the school, he is responsible for the instructional focus of the campus.  Tantamount to his view of his instructional approach is the belief that it is our job to enliven the innate potential of every child to grow and develop.  His main objective is making sure that all our students are college ready, whether they be going to a four-year university, two-year university, starting their own business, or going to a trade school. This is accomplished through helping his teachers work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities to design rigorous learning experiences that challenge all students to think critically and demonstrate a deeper understanding of the content that they encounter on a daily basis. Prior to his position as the Academic Dean of Sul Ross, Reeves worked in NISD’s District office in the Department of School Improvement.  In this capacity he worked with campuses to improve the success of Emergent Bilinguals on the middle and high school campuses.  Fluent in both English and Spanish, he uses his understanding of language acquisition to design research-based programs that improve the lives of our second language learners in the secondary arena.

When not in the world of education in the traditional sense, he can be found on the soccer field training and coaching various soccer players and teams during the week and on the weekends.  A United States Soccer Federation C licensed coach, former Olympic Development Program Head Coach, and former professional player in the US and Mexico, he uses his knowledge and experience to prepare the next generation of soccer players for whatever their next level entails to included club, middle school, high school, college or beyond.  Mr. Reeves received his Bachelor’s degree from Claremont Mckenna College and his masters from Pepperdine University.  He is married to Allison and has two children, Delahmu and Nyalah.
