Very Rev. Kevin P. Fausz, C.M., V.U.

Pastor of Holy Redeemer and Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Michael Catholic Churches

Dean of the Central Urban Deanery, San Antonio

Following graduation from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in 1975, Fr. Kevin, a Vincentian priest, worked as a registered nurse until 1982.  He entered the seminary in 1982 and was ordained in 1991, receiving his Master of Divinity Degree, MA in Theology, Certificate in Spiritual Direction and Certificate in Youth Ministry from St. Thomas Theological Seminary in Denver.  He has studied at Xavier University in the Institute for Black Catholic Studies.  His first assignment was at St. Fidelis in Chicago for two years. He then served as Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Perryville, Missouri for 14 years (his home parish) and Administrator of St. Vincent High School before taking a sabbatical in San Antonio.  After spending time at the North American College in Rome, Fr. Kevin returned to San Antonio in April 2008 and was named Pastor of Holy Redeemer Parish and appointed Priest Administrator for St. Gerard Catholic High School for the school year 2009-2010.  He is presently Dean of the Central Urban Deanery for the Archdiocese of San Antonio and Chair of the Archdiocesan Presbyteral Council and serves on the College of Consultors.  He is a member the Priest Personnel Committee. He is Chaplain at Our Lady of the Lake University, Spiritual Advisor and board member for the Archdiocesan Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and is Spiritual Advisor and board member for ACTS-HIV Ministry. Fr. Kevin is the State Chaplain for the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver. In June of 2014 he was named Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish while continuing as Pastor of Holy Redeemer Parish. In July of 2018 he was assigned a third parish, St Michael Catholic Church.

Father Kevin has worked to develop programs to serve the poor on the East Side.  Working with local schools, Holy Redeemer has provided mobile food pantries and food giveaways in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank to serve families in need. Holy Redeemer has partnered with Catholic Charities and Christus Santa Rosa Hospital to provide Community Wellness and Resource Fairs for the East Side.  Every Tuesday, a noon meal is served to adults in the parish hall. Working with Catholic Charities, classes in parenting have been established at  Holy Redeemer to provide parenting classes and programs for the local community. He is currently serving on a Neighborhood Advisory Committee for Crosspoint.  This is a transitional housing program for individuals re-entering society following incarceration.    He is a member of the SAGE Board.

As Spiritual Advisor for the Archdiocesan Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Father provides Spiritual Direction and guidance for the Board.  Besides their many outreach programs that serve people of all faiths throughout the Archdiocese, they currently provide all the meals at Prospect Courtyard at Haven for Hope.

The ACTS-HIV Community has found a home at Holy Redeemer also.  Through the ministry of Father as Spiritual Advisor, this ministry that serves those infected, or effected by HIV-AIDS continues to reach out and provide retreats, support groups, spiritual development and socialization.

Fr. Kevin ministers to the University Community at Our Lady of the Lake University as Chaplain.  Through his chaplaincy at the University, he is able to interact, support and care for the students, faculty and staff.

He is a Member and Chaplain for the Knights of Peter Claver Council and the Fourth Degree Assembly, as well as, the Chaplain for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver and the Fourth Degree Chapter. He is currently the Texas State Chaplain for the Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver.  He is a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus and a Member of the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.  He is a Golden Life Member of the NAACP

He has become very active in the San Antonio community since his appointment as Pastor. In 2012, he received the Dreamers in Action Award from the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.   His excellent leadership skills have allowed Holy Redeemer to continue to be “a Beacon of Hope” for the East Side.  Fr. Kevin will be inducted into the Black Clergy Hall of Fame in February of 2020.
