Dr. Shwanda Ifeoma Onwuachi advocates for education for children of color and is dedicated to enhancing mathematical proficiency among middle-school African-American boys. Her doctoral research explored culturally relevant pedagogy’s impact on their math success. Known affectionately as Dr. O, she has developed African American History curricula for private and charter schools from elementary through high school.
Through her non-profit, Triumphant Community Development Corp., Dr. O collaborates with school leaders and parents to bridge gaps in math and reading. She advocates for integrating culturally relevant pedagogy into curricula, believing every child can learn when education reflects their backgrounds and experiences.
Dr. Onwuachi holds a Doctorate in Education from Walden University, a Master’s in Education from Concordia University, and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Saint Leo University. With over 20 years in education, she has served as an administrator, curriculum writer, math lead, teacher, and mentor. She resides in San Antonio, TX, and has a daughter who is a graduate student also completing her Master’s in Education. Dr. Onwuachi also hosts her podcast, “Ify Talks”, which examines the dynamics of relationships and their complexities.
